February 23 is Fulbright Iceland Day

Join Fulbright Iceland for a series of live events with notable Fulbright Alumni to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Iceland and the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Program.

Each of the three events will be streamed on Zoom and on the Fulbright Iceland Facebook page.

Register to participate in the Zoom streams and get the opportunity to ask the speakers questions towards the end of each event.

Interview with the Minister of the Environment, Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson.

The Fulbright Commission Executive Director will chat with the Minister about his Fulbright experience, he will share his views on some of the important environmental issues facing us today and how the US and Iceland can work together on these issues. There will be an opportunity for registered participants to send in questions.

Icelandic Academic Vocabulary: What 10th Graders and Their Teachers Learn – by Dr. Barbara Leister and Dr. Sigríður Ólafsdóttir.

Fulbright Specialist Dr. Barbara Laster from Towson University was hosted by Dr. Sigríður Ólafsdóttir at the University of Iceland’s School of Education 3 years ago. Since then they have been cooperating on a project to improve effective language instruction with special emphasis on vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing in Icelandic schools. Join us to hear about their work and how a 4-week Fulbright Specialist visit can turn into a lasting and impactful collaboration.

The Secret Lives of Glaciers – A Presentation  – by two-time Fulbright grantee, geographer, and glaciologist, Dr. M Jackson.

If you are interested in the human dimension of climate change you won’t want to miss this! Dr. M Jackson, geographer, glaciologist and two-time Fulbright grantee to Iceland, will give a live presentation on Fulbright Iceland Day, February 23rd. The presentation will focus on her time as a scholar in Höfn í Hornafirði and her subsequent book The Secret Lives of Glaciers. M is a National Geographic Society Explorer, Ted fellow and author, who has an ability to get to the crux of complex issues with piercing insights and eloquence.
