Fulbright Day: Albania

December 2, 2021

Fulbright alumni from Albania and the United States came together for a virtual event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Program. On the heels of World War II, in 1946 President Truman signed legislation to establish the Fulbright Program to foster greater mutual understanding through international educational exchanges. To mark the 75th anniversary, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Albania joined Fulbright alumni for a virtual event highlighting the best practices of Fulbright alumni in their communities. In his opening remarks, Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Chad Twitty pointed out the fact that this celebration was also planned to coincide with International Education Week not simply because education is a priority for the U.S. Embassy, but also to highlight the contributions of the Albanian Fulbright alumni working in various fields, including education. PAO Twitty noted the high numbers of Fulbright alumni holding leadership positions in academia. Moderated by Fulbright alumna Entela Hodaj-Çeliku, panel members and Fulbright alumni shared best practices in the field of education by creating new study programs, developing new courses, authoring textbooks, teaching ethical values, and introducing new state-of-art medical interventions.
