Fulbright Day: Turkey

The Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States and Turkey, the Turkish Fulbright Commission, was established by a bi-national agreement signed between the United States and Turkey in 1949. Since the creation of the Commission in 1949, funding has been provided by the governments of Turkey and the United States. Join Turkey as they celebrate 75 years of the Fulbright Program with a full day of events.

Opening
Time: 2:30 – 2:45 PM Turkey Time - UTC/GMT + 2 hours
Ms. Betti Delevi, of the Turkish Fulbright Commission, will make short introductions. An "In Memoriam" video with portraits of some of our many alumni, who inspired us and enriched our lives, will follow. The opening will conclude with welcoming remarks by Dr. Ersel Aydınlı of the Turkish Fulbright Commission.

Reunion: U.S. Alumni on Making Turkey Their Home
Time: 2:45 – 3:30 PM Turkey Time - UTC/GMT + 2 hours
The panel on “Reunion: U.S. Alumni on Making Turkey Their Home” will bring together alumni from different categories such as Senior Researcher, Student Researcher and English Teaching Assistants. The panelists will talk about some of the rewarding experiences they had in Turkey that have enriched their lives and how they decided to stay in Turkey.

After Fulbright: Career opportunities and new horizons
Time: 3:45 - 4:30 PM Turkey Time - UTC/GMT + 2 hours
Fulbright Scholarship programs provide its grantees a significant opportunity to deepen their knowledge and gain firsthand experience about their host countries. When the grantees return to their home countries, they share their acquired knowledge and experience with their professional and social surroundings. “After Fulbright: Career opportunities and new horizons” panel will convene the Turkish Fulbright alumni from diverse professions to discuss and share their experiences during and after their grant periods, with prospective grantees in mind.

Inspiring Story: A Conversation with Dr. Thomas Lovejoy
Time: 4:45 - 5:15 PM Turkey Time - UTC/GMT + 2 hours
“The Godfather of Biological Diversity”, Prof. Thomas Lovejoy was a 50th Anniversary Distinguished Fellows Program grantee to Turkey in 1996. This conversation will cover the past and present scholarship in the field; how research has influenced policy and practice on the ground; progress and points of optimism; and how Covid 19 has impacted perceptions of the value of biodiversity on a global and personal level.
