12/10/2021, 7:00 am EST

On December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, the Nobel Prizes will be awarded to the 2021 laureates. The laureates will give their official Nobel Prize lectures, which describe the history and background of their discoveries, literature or prize-awarded work.

Tune in to the livestream at 1 p.m. CET/7 a.m. EST to watch Fulbright alum Maria Ressa receive her Nobel Peace Prize award in Oslo, Norway.

If you are unable to watch the stream, Ressa's lecture will be posted here after the event.

About Maria Ressa: Ressa was awarded the prize together with Dmitry Muratov "for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace."

With a 35-year career in journalism, Ressa is the co-founder, CEO, and president of Rappler, the Philippines’ top digital-only news site leading the fight for press freedom in the country. Because of her tireless work against disinformation, she has been subject to political harassment and even arrest, but continued her pursuit of truth and democracy nonetheless. Ressa was named Time Magazine’s 2018 Person of the Year as well as one of their Most Influential Women of the Century, and is also the recipient the 2020 Journalist of the Year and Most Resilient Journalist awards, among many others.

A 1986 Fulbright U.S. Student to the Philippines, Ressa notes that her time there “changed her life.” Although she studied political theater on Fulbright, she ultimately found what she calls her “longest relationship, besides [with] her parents:” journalism.
