Shelby Lewis Delivers Keynote at Appalachian Fulbright Week

Former Vice Chair of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, Dr. Shelby Lewis, will deliver the keynote address at Appalachian State University's Fulbright Week, February 16 – 18, 2021. The annual event includes a series of discussions and workshops that help the university students and faculty understand Fulbright program opportunities and how to take advantage of them.

Dr. Shelby F. Lewis is Professor Emeritus at Clark Atlanta University. She is a former member and Vice Chair of the presidentially appointed Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB). As a Senior Fulbright Lecturer at the National University of Lesotho from 1982 to 1983, Dr. Lewis helped establish the Women’s Research Collective; and, as an international consultant in Zimbabwe from 1985 until 1987 she helped found Network: A Pan-African Women’s Forum and Development Consultants Network, a development company.

Dr. Lewis served on the Board of the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) for two terms and established a teaming relationship between CIES and the United Negro College Fund Special Programs, Inc. (UNCF/SP) during her tenure as Vice President for International Development and director of university-to-university linkage programs at UNCF/SP. She earned her undergraduate degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge, a Master’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a PhD from the University of New Orleans, all in Political Science.
